It was a long search that took me over ten years. But Finally, I found it - the floor of the house interior that will delight the end of a corridor of five feet from the door of my house. The Aspidistra, commonly known as cast iron plant, has appeared in the halls of many an otherwise drab Victorian English manor, and now thanks to my house in the suburbs of Sydney brick.

Many gardening experts describe the Aspidistra houses one of the toughest and most adaptable plants. Its long slender leaves dark green or variegated dark green and white leaves shoot out from the earth, but in groups and up to 75 cm high and 15 cm wide.

It's like a low maintenance plant as well as a woman of temperament does not need any fussing over but still maintains its sweet character. It takes very little light, average temperature and humidity and only occasional irrigation.

Other plants that need lots of light

low light plants are usually defined as those that can survive in 25 to 75 foot candles - That is, a place that is 4 to 5 meters in a bright window, just enough light to read comfortably, but where artificial lighting on during the day could give a sparkling effect.

You can find the Aspidistra in your local nursery garden center. In addition, five other plants that are adapted to low light situations, are:

Aglonema (Chinese Evergreen) which are among the few plants that prefer only moderate light and adapt well to low light. It has large oval dark green below, leathery leaves falling further developing a base of Caney.

Deremensis Drachaena varieties (also known as Happy or Fortune Plants) which are thin sheets of paper and usually changed. The family crest caney Drachaena are plants with decorative foliage rosettes straplike.

Holly fern which adapts to low light and Boston fern type fishbone fern that will remain in low light for many months, but need more light spell Bright rejuvenate.

Salon Bella Neanthes or Palm, which is more suitable for low light situations than most palms.

Sanseviera (also known as the Mother-in-law tongue) which is under very bright light has waxy, erect straplike leaves usually with cream-colored margins and an unusual band center grayish green.
